LIGHT

Light is what makes photography work, and how a photographer takes advantage of it can be the difference between a good photo and a great one. I work exclusively with natural light, and whether we’re indoors or out, I work to use the available light to create artful representations of my subjects (that’s you!). Although mother nature generally has more control than we do, we’ll work together to choose a location and time of day that maximizes the potential for natural light to work in our favor.

COLOR

I want you to have a gallery that’s rich in color, and we’ll work together to find ways to maximize the color potential in your clothing and our setting. Black and white images are fabulous too (and you’ll always get both color and black and white in your gallery), but I love me some rich, vibrant images!

CONNECTION

When I’m working with couples and families, I want to capture moments of connection. We’ll do our best to get that everyone-looking-and-smiling portrait, but I will strive just as much to document those times when people are looking at each other and being together in a way that’s authentic and personal.

CONTEXT

Choosing the right location for a photo session is important, particularly if you want to represent someplace meaningful to you, like your home or a favorite city park. Or maybe you’d like your photos to be full of architectural details. Or perhaps you’d rather have trees and fields and water. If you’re getting a headshot, you might want to feature your workplace or even a photo of you actually working. We’ll figure this out together and choose a location that fits your vision. So many possibilities!

FUN

Getting your picture taken can be stressful. When you have kids, you may worry that they won’t cooperate or smile or behave. And as adults, we often feel self-conscious and insecure about ourselves. I work my hardest to make your session relaxed and fun — no pressure. Kids will be kids, and sometimes that’s when the best opportunities for photos present themselves. And as for you, take a deep breath. You’re awesome and unique, and we’ll work together to capture your best, most authentic self.

STAGES

Investing in a professional photo session allows you to capture life’s many stages and milestones with high-quality, archival images. Whether you have a new baby, a growing family with many generations, a senior in high school, or even just a seven-year-old with two missing front teeth, no one ever says, “I wish I wouldn’t have gotten those pictures taken.”

STORY

Pictures where folks are smiling and looking at the camera are nice — I get it! And I love when I can give people those kinds of images. But my favorite pictures are the ones that tell a story. They might not end up on your holiday card, but they’re important because they tell something about you and about that day or that moment in time. If your kids don’t love getting their picture taken, for instance, we’ll work with that. If they’re more interested in climbing a rock or spinning in circles or hiding behind mom’s leg, we’ll work with that. It’s all beautiful.
